Minnesota to Open New ACTG Immune Study

Prednisone, probably the most commonly used drug for treating disorders requiring immune suppression, is to be tested for a 12-week period to learn if it will have beneficial effects in persons with HIV/AIDS. The theory is that prednisone will reduce the population of active cells that are most easily infected by HIV. The net effect would then be a reduction in viral load (the amount of HIV in the body). This short study (ACTG 349) is fairly easy to participate in. Especially important is that it doesn’t require changing antiretroviral therapy. Please call us at 612-625-1462 if you would like more info on this or any other current Minnesota ACTU study.
