Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group Leadership Retreat

Three of our Minnesota AACTU staff attended the AACTG leadership retreat in Denver Mar 8-10. The purpose of the meeting was to review the AACTG Scientific Agenda to determine if there were gaps in it or if changes needed to be made in light of data presented at the 8th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) held last month in Chicago. No true gaps were perceived, but several protocols were fine-tuned to accommodate new data from CROI. Three areas of high priority for the AACTG Scientific Agenda are: (1) Use of a viral inhibitory lab assay in clinical trials to predict outcome; (2) Strategic Treatment Interruptions; and (3) Therapeutic drug monitoring. A great deal of effort is being spent to coordinate studies from the Research Agenda Committees in order to avoid duplication and dilution of effort.
