Mosquitoes Everywhere!

The mosquito-borne viral encephalitis season is upon us. With a bumper crop of mosquitoes out there, children are at increased risk for California (La Crosse) encephalitis and adults for West Nile virus. A human case of West Nile virus in Minnesota has already been reported by the Minnesota Department of Health. To reduce the probability of being infected, use insect repellant when outside and avoid going outdoors in the early morning and evening hours, when mosquito activity is at its highest. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts may be uncomfortably hot, but they also lower the risk of being bitten.
